So, with book 4 of Valengetrix being released into the wild, I’ve been thinking of future writing plans and where I would like to take things from here. As I’ve stated in several social media posts before, I plan to wind up the Valengetrix series with book 5 to focus on other projects. However, that’s not to say that Val’s story will end there, though I do intend to make a return to writing short stories based in the same world.
Originally, Valengetrix was intended to be a compilation of short stories, but as time went on, I seemed to have deviated from that route in favor of more character development. (What can I say? I really enjoy where the story is going.) Coincidentally, the novels in the series have moved away from the short story format into a full-fledged novel, which wasn’t my initial plan.
The outline for book 5 is already in motion (and mostly conceived), and while I don’t anticipate the format will be much different from the previous two novels in the series, going forward I want to get back to the “hit and run” style that is easy to pick up and easy to put down that I began with in “Ghost of Aratania.” I’ve got so many ideas for other stories/genres, but with limited time, it is difficult for me to focus on more than one project at a time.
I had planned to release a short compilation of sci-fi/Weird West/Cosmic horror tales that I wrote a few years back, and I may still do that if I can manage to sneak it in between work on book 5. Either way, my focus going beyond the Valengetrix series is to devote more time to building out the world of Auropia and the expanded map beyond with more characters and lands while returning to my short story roots.
While Sword & Sorcery/Fantasy is where my heart truly lies, I would love to one day venture into the realm of Sci-fi or Sword & Planet. Who knows where the future may lead? I will say that I’m not limited by imagination, merely time, and much like Val has grown in character, I feel I’ve grown as a writer as well.
Thank you for listening to my rant. Be sure to pick up my newest book, Valengetrix: Slayer of Nameless Shadow on Amazon! And, if you haven’t started the series yet, then what are you waiting for? All of my books can be found on Amazon.com or you can check out my website for more info.
Have a good Monday and enjoy your week everyone!
